This place does not know how to properly manage the pain of its residents, they tend to miss obvious non verbal signs from someone who cannot advocate for them selfs any longer. My grandfather had a broken hip that required surgery and another hair line fracture to the other hip. At one point they had him on PRN (as needed) pain meds only. There were days and sometimes two days in a row he went without any pain medication. I read the chart and could see proof of this. One day I went to visit and I asked if he could have some pain medication because he was very obviously showing non verbal signs of pain that were being ignored. The nurse said it wasn’t time for him to have anything which I understand because I am also a nurse. So I just asked that he have something as soon as it was time. Well the next day we had him placed on hospice and I reviewed his charts and the nurse in fact did not administer any more pain medication for the rest of that night. Another thing is he had a bad bed sore. When different staff were asked about it some knew he had it and others didn’t. The bandage had no date in it which it should have been, could have been on for who knows how long. On the behavior units residents seemed just to be forgotten about almost. It’s one thing to have a run down old building but to have bad staff on top of it… the only good thing I can say about this place is the nurse Toya (I think that’s how you spell it). If your loved one is here and needs better pain management Arkansas hospice is a great option, they made my grandpa comfortable for his last week there.
