My mother has moved into Brookdale Collin Oaks. It is very warm and friendly. There are lots of activities. It is an inviting and very cheerful environment. They have Bible study, exercise classes, arts and crafts, games that keep their mind sharp, movie nights, trivia, card playing, and field trips. They have so many activities. The room is an open room with a private bathroom and enough room for a bed and a little seating area with double closets. So there's plenty of storage. We have not tried the food, but my mother loves it. She says it's very good. They get three meals a day plus snacks. And in their rooms, each has a small refrigerator with a microwave if they want to keep their own personal food. The dining area is big, open, and friendly. The value for money is wonderful. The staff is very accommodating, very friendly, and very supportive of the residents continuing with their daily activities, continuing to get strong, and continuing to do the social so that they don't feel isolated. I speak very, very highly of the staff and the administrator. One of the other reasons that brought us to that community was the staff. They maintain the facility wonderfully. They have a maintenance gentleman that works nonstop. They also have a cleaning crew that comes in and cleans my mother's room once to twice a week. It's very, very clean. They have a nice outdoor area for them to go to. It's a secure patio area where they can be outside. They have a small area for them to do outside gardening. They have a small workout area if they want to work out. They have an activity center. In their main dining room is where they have bigger activities, and then they also have like a community TV room. They also have a library where the residents can go and either work on a computer or read quietly or do other activities in there.

The place looked like a typical nursing home; I wasn't all that impressed with the place. They didn't have a one-bedroom available, but one of the ladies who lives there showed us her room, which was really nice of her. She had it fixed up really cute. There's a half-wall between the living room and the bedroom, which made the bedroom space so small that only a queen-sized bed and nightstand fit. I also looked at their studio apartment and it was pretty little. I went to one of their activities and they had a sing-along going on with a really good turn out. The person who assisted me was friendly and helpful. They had a TV area, a game area, and a beauty shop. They had a small therapy room also, but it was adequate.
