Brookdale Park Place is great. They check on me. They have a beautiful place. I'm very happy. I have a two-room apartment and a bathroom and laundry facilities and everything. They do housekeeping and all kinds of stuff. So, I'm really pleased with it. I haven't been in any of the activities yet, but I get three meals a day. We have cocktail hours on Wednesdays, a library, computer rooms, and arts and crafts. It's just a wonderful place. We have a wonderful chef. He and I have talked with him on several occasions. I graduated from culinary school so he and I have a lot to talk about. I like to cook, and he likes it, and his food is excellent. I think they are fabulous.

The price point at Brookdale Park Place was good for independent living. The apartment was bright and felt large. They seemed like they had a good program for engaging the seniors in activities. What I didn't like was that the building seemed like they were not in great repair. I didn't like the fact that there wasn't central air conditioning. They had to have air conditioning units pulled in and pulled out seasonally. The apartments themselves seemed a little dirty to me. Even the ones that they were showcasing and the closet storage was not great. I looked at the menus, and from what I could see it had a great, varied menu. I just did not like the fact that you are limited as independent living. You only got two meals there as opposed to three.

I really like Brookdale Park Place. I like the way it was set up. I like the fact that they have a lot of community where they draw people in. Everybody seemed to have a little group area where they hung out. The facility was very clean. Everything was in really good condition. The apartments were nice. The floor was nice. If you wanted to throw rugs or something, there's plenty of room for it. If you're sharing a room they have really nice partitions, so you have your own closet and space. As far as the facility goes, I think it's really nice and great. The only thing that I didn't like was the price.

My mom moved into Brookdale Park Place. They had a wide variety of options for her, which ended up being important, because when we got there the one that she had chosen ended up being too small. But they had several other options that were larger and weren't much more expensive. They made the change while we were moving into the new apartment, so they were very flexible. It was a very good experience overall. The staff has bent over backwards to help us out. They let us move into the new apartment after my mom changed her mind and did the paperwork over there. When I went to first view it myself, the main person was sick, so they found somebody who had been there for 26 years who knew the history of the place, gave me the tour, and showed me four or five different apartments. It was very nice the entire time. I trust the location for my mom now. The waitstaff knew my mom's name, and they were very patient when she was trying to choose things from the menu, which, by the way, was very good. Everybody there is fantastic, from janitors to utility people, to the administration. They play poker and do other activities, including field trips to different places, and grocery shopping as well. The value my mom got for this apartment was significantly better than many of the other places I had seen and researched.

Brookdale is extremely expensive, understaffed, and has had lots of turnover in caregivers and additional services like the salon. Due to understaffing they don’t seem to be able to keep up on the hygiene of their residents or their clothing. They have made it abundantly clear that in memory care they just want residents that will sit in a corner and not create any extra work for their caregivers like walks for residents that suffer from sundowners. The director may try to mandate a 24/7 babysitter for your loved if they are seen as being an inconvenience and charge the family a huge hourly rate for it. Your loved one deserves better and deserves a facility with a higher caregiver to resident ratio.

We went to tour Brookdale Park Place. There were lots of different apartment floor plans to choose from. We looked at the 2-bedroom apartment, and it didn't smell old when we walked in. Mary toured us around, and she was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She knew pricing pretty much off the top of her head. It seemed like there were lots of activities going on. The facility was in a nice setting, clean, and very friendly. It was older, but it was well taken care of. They had a laundry room, although some of the apartments also had washers and dryers in their units. There was a hair salon, a physical therapy room, a library, and a computer room. There were some open spaces with a lamp and a couple of chairs on different wings, kind of set out away from everything else if you just wanted a quiet place to read outside of your apartment. Three meals were served every day, and they had happy hour every Friday. They also had games, dominoes, cards, and puzzles.
