After hearing of a Catonsville resident provide glowing reviews of this community, I pressed for details. Well, it turns out the details aren''t so nice. Like most other continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), the promises are broken when you actually need care. In this case, the resident described people who moved their loved ones out when they discovered the care was not at a humane and compassionate level . I and many others encountered this in other "high end" CCRCs. Most CCRCs are predatory scams - whether "for profit" or "not for profit." They lure people in with decent amenities for independent living, but when you are moved into "care," and are most vulnerable and dependent, you are taken advantage of and neglected. Take note: Look at the laws in your state for Assisted Living. For nursing care, also look at the Federal Statutes which are extensive 42 CFR § 483 (42 CFR § 483.10 for Residents'' Rights). In nursing care: "Each resident must receive and the facility must provide the necessary care and services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being, consistent with the resident''s comprehensive assessment and plan of care." 42 CFR § 483.24 Get to know what state agency regulates Long Term Care facilities and FILE COMPLAINTS. Of course, expect retaliation, because the owners and operators of these communities are nothing short of EVIL. You will ALWAYS be better served by getting home care that YOU manage. Good luck.

This outfit bombards our household with advertising. At least one mail piece every week, and relentless email & internet intrusions. Based on my experience with a close friend that they nearly drove to insanity, the snooty residents I have encountered outside the place, and Erickson''s shabby treatment every time I''ve gone to one of their facilities to entertain (as an unpaid volunteer), I would be reluctant to set foot on the property, much less surrender a lifetime''s accumulated wealth to live there. Your experience may vary.
