Dominion of Athens is very good. I like that they don't just keep their memory care residents in their rooms. They take them out into the common area all day. They just had a watermelon party the other day where they took them on the porch and had watermelon. They have pizza parties, too, and people that come in to visit and sing. They have all kinds of activities. I also like the price and the care that my mom gets. They fix her three meals a day and the food is great.

I was impressed with the Dominion of Athens. The thing that sold me was they have an all-inclusive that you pay for. If you got just the smallest room, it's still all-inclusive, meaning they do everything you need them to do to help you out, including giving you your medicine. If you have Alzheimer's and dementia, they have to move you to another area of their community that is just for them, and the only time the price would change would be if your senior parent or loved one goes into that kind of care. If they don't need help, they're still going to pay that price, but if they ever get to the point that they need help going to the bathroom or help with their medicine, it's already paid for. That to me was the most important aspect. Not to mention, the place was gorgeous. The inside was nice. They require their residents to go to the dining area, and they have wait people who come out and wait on them at the table like they're at a restaurant. They can still leave if they are capable of driving. They have parking places there for them to park their car. I would live there. I was so impressed. Dominion is all over the United States. It's not just in Athens, Tennessee. They had a little bar set up there where they could get up in the mornings and go sit and have coffee before the actual cafeteria or whatever breakfast serving came along. All that stuff is already paid for. It's there for their use. They're over the top. The lady that runs the place, Cathy, was so helpful. When we were about to put my friend in there and her house didn't sell to give her the money to go, she got them to drop all the fees and give her a month's free. They were just awesome people. They have a chapel set up in that place, and they have different ministers that come in there and have services with these people. It looks like a little church setup. These people can go to church on Sunday morning and have regular service. They did not cater to one religion and I thought that was great. They allow different religious ministers to come in there and minister. They celebrate holidays like Easter and Christmas and things for the church. My neighbor is the one I was looking for, but I would even for myself want to be in a place like that. The staff was awesome, so helpful, and considerate. They called her and checked on her and went to visit her when she was in a rehab center. They made physical visits to her place and talked with her. I'm just overwhelmed. I can't say enough good things about them. The staff was awesome. The dining area looked nice and if you want to do Thanksgiving or a special birthday dinner with some family members, you can reserve that room and it doesn't cost them anything. They invite their family up there and the cafeteria will serve them the meal that they're having. They only charge their family members $5 a plate. They have a menu for every meal, and they have more than one thing they can choose from. I was impressed with the fact that you could have a personal dining experience with your family in a nice place. They had crown molding around the ceiling and on the floor down around. It's the most expensive thing you can put in there, and everything is like that. Their bathrooms were awesome for seniors and those who need help. They were all flat to the floor and they could just walk in it. They didn't have to try to step over anything to go in there. They had places on the walls for them to hold if they needed to. Everything was so catered to them and modern. Nothing was old and rundown or anything like that. Everything was just as new as it could be. I was so impressed. They're very good to stay on top of any issue. When they couldn't get a hold of my neighbor, they were really good to contact me and ask me what was going on. I thought that was a lot for them in their busy day to talk and inquire about somebody that wasn't even there yet.

My mom moved into the Dominion of Athens. The facility itself is new and very nice. Her room is just about right for her. The activities that they do are good for my mom. She can spend time with other people, and that's probably the thing she needs most. They have different forms of exercise, different kinds of games, card games, and getting their fingernails done. They have snacks in the morning and afternoon. The staff members seem to be very receptive to my mom's needs, and they are available whenever she needs somebody. They all seem nice. They have a salon. They have availability to a physician assistant, an on-duty nurse, and a physical therapist. They have devotions and church activities. They have trips occasionally.
