Sad true story. My loved one is a current resident at the Gull Creek Valeo memory care unit. She arrived at Gull Creek in mid-April, 2018 after being medically assessed for admittance by Gull Creek medical staff, while hospitalized in Delaware. I had been the duly enacted medical and financial power of attorney, as well as the primary caregiver for the previous approximate two years, providing loving care at home, with the aid of home health nurses and the local adult day program. By mid-May, 2018, about one month after arriving at Gull Creek, another (long lost) family member, along with their attorney and notary, victimized my loved one by executing new power of attorney documents that Gull Creek then deemed to be legally-binding. Gull Creek allowed this outrageous situation to take place on their watch, at their facility, while my loved one is a resident in their "secure memory care" unit. They themselves assessed my loved ones'' mental decline and determined her need to be in their Valeo memory care unit. Gull Creek, without prior authorization, allowed an individual, a person unknown to them, ultimately an adverse family member, to take my loved one out of the secure memory care unit and move about w/out staff present. This occurred the first week of arrival, while I was still the designated Agent/POA for my loved one. This serious breach of safety and security is really quite shocking. Gull Creek now say''s their policy is "no one leaves the memory care unit without their Agent/POA to accompany them". It''s too little; too late for me and my loved one. My loved one has recent, documented medical history showing severe memory loss, inability to live independently, diminished cognitive capacity and "major neurocognitive disorder of the Alzheimer''s type with behavioral disturbance". All these documented medical conditions are apparently worthless to stop the legal victimization that occurred. And, the attorney even named her own self as the "Alternate" power of attorney for my family member, even though my loved one has her own family who is still able and willing to care for her. Maryland is like the wild west for safe and secure elder care. Beware. Stay away from Atria Salisbury too. They failed my loved one last year, while she was a resident at Atria Assisted Living, with over-medication and at least two falls, while at their facility. The Director there was fired, and Atria Salisbury was cited for resident violations after my formal complaint was filed and the facility was investigated by the State of Maryland. I brought my loved one back home to continue her care with home health nurses, but sadly her condition continued to decline, hence another hospitalization and the current residency at Gull Creek memory care. Get a lawyer is the best advice I can offer, but I couldn''t get one to Be ready to empty out your bank account to fill the coffers of a law firm, and get geared up for a years long legal battle if you want to fight the insanity. Sage Advice: Get your legal documents in place, but know it could all be undone after you are sick. Bad people can completely undo what was stated by the individual to be their desires, and was legally prepared, when the individual was of sound mind and body. Incredibly surreal situation. I am still in disbelief. C. **Updates for the curious of just how bad things can get if you get very sick, even when your legal documents are prepared and enacted: ** The POA lied to Gull Creek & removed my family member, saying they were taking her on an "extended vacation". They moved her over a 1,000 miles away, to another facility, in Utah w/ a new POA, where she died in 12/2019. I was prevented by the new POA from speaking to my mom before she died, w/no legal reason. 08/20/2020: Gull Creek responded to a records request: "We lost all your mother''s records, we can''t find them." They accepted an ill-gotten power of attorney for a memory care resident which caused my dear mother to be victimized and then die. That''s why her records are "missing". (RIP Mom)

I think Gull Creek Senior Living has done an excellent job. My mother-in-law is very happy there. They have activities. They have three meals a day, which is great. She only goes to two, but that's because she doesn't get up early enough to do the morning ones. She sleeps in. The main thing is she's happy and they've been very accommodating. She doesn't do a whole lot of activities. She likes to play bingo. She has a group of friends that she eats lunch and dinner with. She is as active as she wants to be. She doesn't participate in all of the things, but that's because she's 90 years old, and she wasn't very active before she went in anyway. When she was sick and had to go to the hospital and we have not been anywhere nearby to help her, they took care of her there, which has been a big blessing to have. That's what we needed. There are times that she has to be taken to the doctor for regular visits (not because she's sick, but just a regular check-up) and they have a service where they will take you if you arrange it ahead of time. So, I couldn't ask for a better place for her and she's close to our home. So, it's easy for us to get to her. I've had a meal there and it has been a very healthy meal. They've been very pleasant. The only thing you have to do is pay in advance for the meal or they could put it on her tab. The only bad thing is they only take cash. They won't take a credit card. So, you have to have cash to pay for it, but it's only like $8 for a meal. It's worked very well for us. We haven't had any very bad experiences at all. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. That place is very clean. They have stations where you go and wash your hands. There is sanitizer everywhere. They have someone that comes in and cleans her apartment every week. That's part of her living there. They clean her apartment, do her laundry once a week, and strip her bed. So, they give her a lot of services that other places charge for, and they don't charge for that.

I went to Gull Creek Senior Living. I liked it a lot. It felt like being in a resort. It had very high-end features to it, just beautiful decor. The salesperson was very helpful. I was there when they were eating, and it smelled delicious in the dining hall. The only negative on that one was that their apartments were tight and small. But I think in every place I've seen the apartments are small, so that's not unusual. I liked it a lot. I wish my parents would have considered it because I thought it was a really good option. I also thought that their pricing was extremely reasonable. The apartment had a kitchenette that was very nice with granite counters and such. The staff said she told me you could bring any plug-in appliance you wanted, but they provide a refrigerator. They have a courtyard that they have been working on. Because it was Christmas, they had a Christmas tree lighting there in the middle of it. They had a tree decorated. It was nice. There were lots of benches for people to sit there. A lot of the balconies from the units that overlook the courtyard, too, which was nice. They're top-notch.

The directors have been more than helpful, very friendly, and nice. Mom has a suite. So, she has a kitchenette, a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. They have outdoor activities. Overall we have had a great experience at Gull Creek. The staff does all they can to make my family member comfortable, seen, and heard. [name removed] does an exceptional job with activities and keeping the residents involved. They have also done a complete remodel of their outside garden and sitting area and are upgrading many features throughout the community. They do everything they can to create a safe and beautiful home environment, and not an institutional setting. That is one reason why my family member and I chose Gull Creek!

My father moved into Gull Creek Senior Living. I liked that his room is right around the corner from the dining room and the nurse's station, so it's very convenient for him and them to keep an eye on him. The room that became available was just perfect for him because it just has a bed and a bathroom. They have activities all day long that they can partake in, which is perfect for some of the younger residents to keep them occupied. They have a big sunroom and exercise equipment. They are actually in the process of putting in a new garden with a pathway. They have a room with a big TV that people can go in and watch TV if they don't want to stay in their room. The staff there has been absolutely amazing. They are all very friendly.
