My 87year old mother did not "experience joyful living" when she was involuntarily discharged from the House of Good Shepherd with a 60 day notice to find another home. Yes,we were told they would take good care of my mother for her lifetime at The HOGS. We were not informed, management would determine what a lifetime meant. I am writing this so others may be careful when informed you will recieve " care for any stage of life".It is now defined as long as you can privately pay for the services, you can remain. The direct care staff-nurses,LPNs,CNAs,recreation dietary, maintenance, front desk were all wonderful to my mother. I am sorry that many of them lost their jobs. This move was heartbreaking for my mother and her family. She is now in another home .We are hopeful that we can trust management again. Times are difficult for many businesses, however when you are dealing with the elderly, vulnerable members of our society , I expect more from a Christian organization.

I echo what Sunflower posted. We were told March 29 that they are closing their skilled nursing wing and their Comprehensive Personal Care wing (Medicaid paid assisted living) effective June 1, 2022. That''s right folks, 2 months for family members (for those residents who have family) to scramble and find an appropriate place for loved one to transfer to. I have done nothing else since I was notified but work on this problem. Due to the number of people affected and their Medicaid status you can imagine the intense competition for what the spots are available. They are few and far between as Sunflower noted in her post. The fact that my mother has been there for 5.5 years and has spent down all her private funds after being verbally promised many times that they never turn anyone out due to lack of funds makes it even more disgusting and reprehensible. Don''t believe the official spin they give for why they are closing these units--I sure don''t and take this as a cautionary tale people. Don''t believe anything these places tell you. Meanwhile ask yourselves why there are construction vehicles and renovation activities going on there. I would like to add that I do believe the floor staff when they tell me they were not told about these closures until the same morning the residents were told. My mother''s nursing staff, CNAs, housekeeping and dining room staff have always been very kind, caring and helpful. Some of them will be losing their jobs. Just heartbreaking to see my mom crying all day and asking why she can''t stay in her "home." Again, she has resided there for 5.5 years. Oh and don''t be surprised when similar facilities tell you that they only have Medicaid beds for residents who have been with them for at least 2 years and paying privately before they needed a Medicaid bed. I have been told that as recently as yesterday. Channel 69 FMZ covered this story this week if you want to look it up in their archive.

My grandmother is very upset at their recent closing of her home! Unbelievable they would push all of their nursing home residents out so quickly like that. There are far and few homes for people who need round the clock care like my grandmother. This was also the perfect location for her-close to the hospital and we lived 5 minutes from her. Now it’ll be a hike to go see her and as far as the rest of our family, it’s even further for them now just to visit
