Symphony at Mentor: Connection, Engagement and Purpose
Symphony at Mentor is a suburban memory care community on the banks of Lake Erie that boasts beautiful Victorian architecture, comfy amenities and a robust activities program. Older adults here enjoy many common areas that make days a joy, including an on-site salon/spa, a resident garden, outdoor courtyards and a game room. The events calendar, which is based on eight dimensions of engagement, is filled with opportunities for connection and purpose. Residents discuss literature in the book club, stay healthy in inclusive exercise classes and gather for live entertainment from visiting artists.
They also have a chance to get out and explore the Mentor area, taking excursions to places like The Holden Arboretum, Headlands Beach State Park and the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. Downtown Cleveland is just 30-40 minutes away, meaning the West Side Market, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are easy day trips.
Symphony at Mentor: Design and Care to Serve Loved Ones
Symphony at Mentor designed everything with memory care adults in mind. Unique design elements include wayfinding signage, wide hallways, non-skid flooring, safety cameras and low tables with rounded edges. Mood-enhancing aromatherapy stations are located throughout the common areas. In the apartments are easily accessible wall outlets, walk-in showers, personally monitored thermostats, handrails and 24-hour personal call systems.
The compassionate staff is also around 24 hours a day to serve loved ones, offering companionship, wellness check-ins, medication management and assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, dining and getting around). Other team members ensure life is chore- and worry-free for residents, tackling maintenance issues, cleaning rooms and preparing delicious, nutritious food designed to make mealtimes calm and enjoyable.

The memory care was a different wing, but it was still not separated from the entire facility. It was kind of integrated into the facility, but it was secure. The facility itself was nice. It was a very, very welcoming environment. The staff were outstanding. Marnie and Laurie were fantastic. They were very, very open. The programs that they offer are top notch. They are first-rate.

Symphony at Mentor was quite nice and we thought that the care they provide would be good, but they had a progressive fee structure, which was concerning for us. Other than that, everything was lovely. The executive director was very helpful with her follow-up. I spoke to her two weeks ago and she followed up to determine what our decision had been. That appeared to be a good community for us. They were very helpful and informative. They tried to give you the information you needed to make a decision.

I like the openness of the Symphony at Titus. It's a smaller facility, but there's a high ratio of caregivers to residents, and the residents are assessed and put into neighborhoods that include other residents with the same stage of dementia or Alzheimer's. So, that allows them to be compatible with the other people that are living there. I like that very much. The place is immaculately clean and the staff is very friendly and approachable. We chose to put mom in a two-person suite where she shares a bathroom with another resident. The rooms are not huge, but they are very sufficient because they don't spend a lot of time in their rooms. They try to keep them engaged throughout the day. They want them out with the caregivers and engaging with the social workers and the activity director. They have rosary, communion services, prayer services, aromatherapy, and hair care. So, we're happy about that and they do outside visits to state parks and things like that, too (if people are well enough to do that). The grounds within the facility are very clean and very well kept.
