Well now that I have reported the verbal abuse of my 90 year old mother to the supervisors, I have been told that I cannot call there but once a week at a time that they know of. And all of a sudden my mother does not want to speak to me! My mother hates it there, and wishes she was dead. She tells me that everytime I speak with her. But I do not have the legal right to take her out of the place and bring her home. That was given to my sibling while I live 1200 miles away, AM a senior and disabled. I believe they are continuing to verbally abuse her and even threaten her, and lie about me to her. SHE HAS NEVER EVER NOT WANTED TO SPEAK TO ME BEFORE. My sibling has sworn that she did not tell them not to let me speak to my mom. She has never not wanted to get on the phone with me before. but as soon as they were informed of the abuse I heard 3 times, instead of dealing with the nasty aids, they told me I could not call my mother every day anymore, and my mother now does not want to speak to me! WOW, WHAT AN EVIL SITUATION. I was told by a supervisor named Lara, and Jenelle that the coordinator Ashley Dubay told them to tell me. And OF CAUSE she will not speak to me herself. In the last few weeks I have heard women working there speak very nasty to the old people On the memory ward. I have witnessed at least 3 times TO MY MOTHER when they didn''t know I could hear them. They also continuously ignore them when they''re speaking to them, Or asking for something. . There are some wonderful workers there also. And this is very disheartening for the good workers, That truly loves the people they are taking care of. But the nasty ones should not be tolerated even for 1 minute on the memory wing. The place gives a good show in the daytime when you walk in. But try calling the memory floor and they do not answer the phone for hours. THERE IS A MAN THERE NAMED GABRIEL THAT JUST HANGS THE PHONE UP ON YOU. The phone is far from where the people are. $12,000 + and they find it too hard to answer the phone. Too few workers, that are overworked. However there is no one to speak to after 8 o''clock . MOST OF The people that answer the phone in the lobby during the day are nice, except for Faith . There was a woman named Jamalia extremely nasty there in the early evening. Thank God I think she is gone. I also know someone that''s in there that is very unhappy because they control their every move, when they lie down, when they get up. that is not what assisted living is. The elderly people that are affected with memory loss should be treated with kindness, and dignity. And I know they are not always treated that way in this place. After speaking with her I would never leave my loved one there. The rooms are very dark, ugly colors. They look like a prison cell. With a plastic covered chair, And a very small bed that you have to be concerned that your love one does not fall out of. The bathroom has the bowl at the very end of the room so if your loved one has a problem walking they will fall on the way. There are also very sharp edges on the corners of the bathroom sink cabinet. Not very safe for elderly people that are not in good shape. The Alzheimer part of this place looks like it was converted from a cheap Live in hotel. Very depressing place to look at. God help all those that are forced to stay there The many hours that they have no family aware of what is going on. I have heard people screaming very loudly in the background out of their minds many times when I call up , and I know other people that have gone there say that these people yell all day , every day. This is a very sad place to be.

Neither do they answer the phone on the floor, no matter how early,, or what time you call. And if they do rarely, the phone either disconnects or they hang up a few minutes latter and never answer the phone again. nor does the nurse station answer the phone most of the time. Either they don''t have enough workers, or they just hang up with no explanation . There is a woman named Jamalia extremely nasty there in the early evening. I'm in at Sunrise of Staten Island. The people are very kind and very concerned. The building itself is beautiful and very nicely located. It's very close to the major thoroughfares. It's easy to go from New Jersey or Long Island to get here. The facility is beautiful, clean, and updated. The people are extremely nice and professional. The food is excellent. In terms of activities, they play bingo and stuff like that, but I'd rather read a book. I don't participate too much in those activities. They have outings, but sometimes I don't go to those because I like to be by myself. I don't like to be involved with too many people.
Read moreSunrise of Staten Island is great. Staff is super friendly. I appreciate all their hard work. It's not easy taking care of seniors but they do a great job making sure my loved one has everything they need. Highly recommend.
