Sometimes didn''t get food and was cold when she received it. $560. per day is quite a bit when you get a cold hotdog for lunch. I do not recommend this place. Didn''t clean her room (once in 10 days). I''m the one that changed her sheets. Also bathroom was never cleaned.

Nice place in appearance. No communication between staff. Mom never has her hearing aids on ,one of which the staff has lost (designated duty of nursing staff) hearing aid batteries never checked (furnished by Mom). Mom''s hair is to be done weekly which can not be depended on being done. Like I said there is absolutely "NO" communication between staff. Considering the cost of care for staying there these things are totally "UNACCEPTABLE "

Had my dad here for several months. The building is nice but they have horrible resident to staff ratios. There are occasions where there is 1 nurse for 48 residents. There is a nursing shortage but the Western Home isn’t willing to pay to bring nurses in to help. The caregivers are required to do all of the ancillary services as well as provide the care. Housekeeping, laundry and dining services are all done by the certified nurses assistants in an effort to stretch staffing for more money. This is “the household model” way of doing things but having the caregivers do all the extra services takes away from their role as the caregiver and took away from the care my dad was receiving. In Iowa there is nothing that sets these resident to nurse ratios. The numbers here are unsafe and unfortunately the residents suffer because of this. I would have rather had my dad in an older building with better staffing ratios.
