And looks to be very short on staffing on the weekends as far as I know. The rest of the place seems much nicer.

My father has a form of lewy body dementia. Antipsychotics medications such as Haldol are contraindicated in this population. It did not stop Valley Health from giving it to him in an effort to medicate him to the point where they would not have to take care of him. For a day and a half he laid in his bed and moaned. 2 days later they tried a different similar medication in high doses after we said no more Haldol. The next day we found his sling for his broken arm discarded and him very confused soaked in urine. Hard to describe your place as rehab when you drug up the patients to the point that rehab is not an option and still ignore them. Very disappointed that any place is run this way with such a blatant disregard for human decency. Update: we rescued him yesterday. They were treating his broken arm pain by giving him Valium (which does nothing for pain but does shut him up so he cannot complain). Simply giving him some motrin would have been easy and effective. He is definitely worse and weaker than when he went in. He was able to stand in the shower when he went in. Now he cannot stand to get in the wheel chair he now needs. We are doing home physical therapy and hopefully can overcome their incompetence.

The administration staff are always concerned and helpful to get insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, VA or whoever to pay their due. This takes a load off us, Although Dad would rather be home, he is getting proper care and medicine he needs.Thank you Valley!!!
Fabulous staff. Beautiful facility. Clean environment. Caring patient care. I was deeply impressed.

Our family used this facility for a period of 2 months. During that 2 months, we had numerous concerns with our loved one who was a resident that lead us to believe that there was rampant neglect and abuse. The management promotes an atmosphere of "I don''t know" and "the person who does that isn''t available" when concerns are raised or questions asked. There was no running water in the room provided to our loved one. For two weeks there was no phone in the room. After several complaints a phone was brought to the room but it did not work for another week and then once working, it was found to be frequently moved completely out of reach or had been removed from the room altogether. The call bell electronic system does not work therefore bells were placed on the table in patient''s rooms. The call bell was taken away from our loved one as well as many other patients regularly preventing residents from getting help they needed. It resulted in several falls and injuries to our loved one. Eventually when it became evident that this was happening regularly and intentionally, it was brought to the attention of the appropriate staff members and administrator. They denied this was happening even when presented with proof. No one was checking on our loved one, she did not get adequate physical therapy during her 2 months stay at Valley and declined severely. We eventually had to have our loved one hospitalized at which point it was apparent that there was a high level of neglect, potential abuse, chemical restraint and other issues that had to be treated. It also came to our attention that someone who visited made a report to Adult Protective Services that was investigated. This included what we had already suspected prior--that our loved one was being drugged and chemically sedated so that staff did not have to actually provide care or check on her. Upon asking the director, Jason Lindsey about this, we were told there was no such complaint and repeatedly told that "your allegations are false" That turned out not to be the case. The director was attempting to cover neglect at the facility. Furthermore, we requested their records with all of the appropriate paperwork in place and were given the run around by DON Kyra Ward who was unable to fulfill our request. She was asked to put the policy for records requests in writing on letterhead. When we followed that policy to the letter, we still were denied tell tale records that would prove neglect. I had to contact the Ombudsman, file an additional complaint with Adult Protective Services, make a complaint with Virginia Department of Health and follow up numerous times with Jason Lindsey only then to finally be provided with a general HIPPA request form. As a last resort, I contacted Valley Health Care''s corporate offices which are called Innovative Health Care Management and their VP of Clinical Services, Jeanette Groome. At this point, we were finally told more than a week later that medical records would be produced. When I picked it up from Valley Health Care, Jason Lindsey was nowhere to be found, he tucked his tail and ran off rather than speaking to me like a professional about these concerns or providing the opportunity to answer questions about the packet he had provided. It was found that there were hundreds of pages from other facilities but only 34 from Valley Health Care--none of which included full medical information or what we had asked for. We are in the process of having this information obtained legally. Our loved one was hospitalized and thoroughly examined and treated after a stay at Valley Health Care. Treatment provided here is not fit for human consumption. If you are considering putting your loved one at this facility, you might as well pre pay for a funeral as well--I am confident that if we had not forced them to send our loved one to the hospital, we would have been planning her funeral the following week! Let that sink in!
