This Nursing home is terrible. The rooms are not cleaned well and bathrooms reek of urine. I saw the food they serve and it looks like mushy slop. Nurses do not pay attention to residents except to give out meds. Residents look like zombies which could be because of over medicating them. People are not clean, nobody to encourage them. Nurses do not want to bother asking a resident to come to the phone. They do not seem care if they just sit there. Calling to express concern is either denied by staff, and more than often they will not return phone calls if you leave a message. I want to take my relative out but I don''t know how to do it. It''s a horrific place. Please don''t put your relatives or friends here. Another person told me that they have bed bugs and rodents. I have not seen that but considering how dirty it is, I would not be surprised.

I was hired at the bx location in the summer of 2021. After a long hiring process I finally began my floor orientation. On my 1st day I began giving a patient a bed bath and as I looked down on the floor I saw a bedbug! Then I continued to finish and found another 1 in her bed. I reported this to the person working with me and it was as if I said nothing. As the day went on I took my break and saw several mice in the breakroom. Besides there being a serious rodent problem these girl''s have to assemble the breakfast and lunch trays...the lunch room does not do this. Most places I have worked for has the trays already made. I mean the tickets all come in a rubber band and they have to place 1 on each tray and from the ticket read and place all the food items according to what the ppr says. They place the silverware cups...they actually build the tray...so basically the kitchen only cooks! Too much work! All while leaving your regular duties 1 hour earlier to build trays. I gave 2 stars because the staff were ok. Consider this review when choosing to work there.i left after 2 weeks. I couldn''t take it.

St Vincent DePaul Nursing Home is an amazing facility with a very caring, and kind staff. From the second I walked into the building I felt a sense of team work and commitment. Everyone I met from security, nursing staff, aides, housekeeping to building maintenance, we’re all helpful and caring. . The building is spotless, the food looked delicious. I would highly recommend taking a tour of the facility, if you have a family member or friend that needs rehab or long term care. A top notch facility! Thank you

As a very involved family member, I had the opportunity to observe this home at different points throughout the day. Plusses: Guards at the front desk are cordial and helpful. The admission representative was very patient and kind, answered all of my questions. Nurses are generally patient and kind, some speak Spanish The home offers activities for clients in the day; mostly arts and crafts or singing/listening to music Physical therapy helped make my dad stronger Some nurses advocate for your loved ones Deltas: Nurses are understaffed and overworked; they dont communicate with each other when they change shifts so there is a risk of misadministering meds Nurses did not keep up with my dads oral or physical hygiene (one nurse thought he had been bathed but I discovered that was untrue when communicating with family who had been with him since morning), Activities dont get done in a timely fashion. Example: my dads laundry was taken to wash, it was not returned the following day so had to wear a hospital gown. It''s best to wash your loved ones clothes yourself and bring it from home to make sure its available. Food is like school cafeteria (nyu hospital served much better food), but as long as you communicate with nurse and it follows nutritional plan, you can bring food from outside. Some nurses dont help support clients with eating so unless you actively go to supervise your loved one during breakfast, lunch or dinner there is the possibility that your loved one may overeat or undereat. Nurses don''t consistently engage clients in conversation or cognitive activities so verbal decline in patients with alzheimers is extremely noticeable. There are things that can be done to slow the degenerative disease! Just sitting the patient in front of a window or television does not strengthen their neural functioning. You have to consistently ask managers and nurses to make sure your loved ones have all they need. I know it''s a budgeting issues, which is an unfortunately common with many nursing homes in the South Bronx. Your presence matters! Advocate, advocate, advocate.

My mother Carmen Lanausse was transferred to St. Vincent de Paul nursing Home after being in another nursing home that was dark and depressing. Since arriving at St. Vincent de Paul , it’s been a blessing. Steady stream of attention followed my mother in respect to her well being. From physical therapy, personal grooming, dietary, special events, outside medical care and outdoor events. The staff treated my mother like she was a member of their families and made her feel well cared for. For this, I send my eternal gratitude to the administrator, admissions department, social services department , recreation department, dietary department, rehab department, and MOST especially the nursing department for caring for my mother until her recent passing. Thank you, St. Vincent de Paul for your caring and compassion! You are truly deserving of your 5 star status.
