Linus Oakes Retirement Village doesn't have any care facility. When somebody moves out of one of the apartment-style or the cottage style units, they renovate it and they do the necessary improvements like if they have to replace carpets or linoleum, they do it. They fill in any kind of holes when people put up pictures on the wall. They go completely through it and paint it, and it's like a brand new apartment when you take it over yourself. The staff were very nice. The two girls that run it are very nice. All of the staff are nice. I was very impressed with the college kids that do the serving at dinner. They talk to people, and they use their names. They've already learned the names of the residents. Very impressive. They have exercise equipment, they have an inhouse lady for hairdressing, they have a workshop for men if they are interested in going out to a woodshop to work, and they have busses that go to town twice a week for prescriptions or groceries or whatever you need. You don't need groceries because they serve three meals a day, but some people choose special things if they want to buy or if they want juice in the morning or something like that. They have cottages that are not in a hotel style. They're right down on the main road. You could park within 10 feet of your door, and you have a back porch, and you feel quite independent. The facility was very nice and very clean. Their rooms are bigger.

Linus Oakes Retirement Village is our first choice. I had friends over there. Linus Oakes is premier. It's beautiful. They're wonderful people. The facilities are excellent, it's well-positioned in our town and close to all the amenities. There are just not enough good things to say about it because it's the only place my husband and I will consider. The staff is pleasant and friendly. I saw the dining room there, I saw the chapel, community room, the grounds, and I saw individual apartments and cottages. My friend is in a cottage. The grounds are maintained. She said the food is really good.

Linus Oakes Retirement Village is very nice. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The rooms are very nice. They had a couple of different floor plans, but the one we looked at happened to be sort of at the end of the hallway, so you only hear the one wall with the neighbor. My folks like that because they have pets. The access in and out was easy. They enjoy the meals. They provide two meals a day right now. They provide breakfast and dinner, but nothing for lunch. I'm told the plan is to start providing lunch. They have storage areas for people, kind of first come, first served. It's nice because when you go from a home to a small apartment, sometimes it's hard. Things like Christmas decorations, or if you have a little bit of outdoor gear, they have a place that you can store that, which is very helpful. I was not able to taste the dinner because of the restrictions with COVID. I was allowed to join them for the breakfast one morning. They have a lot of COVID restrictions in place, which I think is a good thing, but it really limits my accessibility to join them for meals. They like the food. I think the first few nights they were just really surprised at how nice, especially the dinners were. The breakfasts are fine. They're continental style breakfasts, but it sounds like they provide hardboiled eggs, so you get a little protein. The breakfasts are good, and the dinner seemed very nice. They have a knitting and crocheting group and they do puzzles. For Halloween, they had a pumpkin decorating contest. They had a nice Thanksgiving meal. They decorate, and they help the residents kind of remember the holidays that are coming up. They organize transportation for activities, not that my parents have participated in those yet, they're still getting kind of settled in. The main thing is that my parents enjoy the social aspect with the other people there, particularly my mother, who's a very social person. However, I felt like they were not very forthcoming about the total cost. It's in the paperwork, but it's kind of buried. They give you cost information, and I felt like the cost information they gave me was based on a single person occupancy, when they knew we had two people, husband and wife, and so when it came time to write the first rent check, it was $600 more than I was anticipating, and I was not happy about that.

I toured Linus Oakes Retirement Village. The community was great. It looks great. It's nice, clean, painted, and the grounds were kept up real nice. The staff was professional but friendly, informative, and knowledgeable. The menu was good, you had three options, but you could always get a fallback to the main menu, too. You could get things like hamburgers and stuff like that any time you wanted. It was pretty slow when I was there, I didn't see too many people wandering around. They have a calendar of activities.

I've visited Linus Oakes. I actually had dinner there. It was very nice but it's just not affordable for me. They have transportation and lots of different activities. They only have one meal a day though, that was one drawback for me. They have a kitchenette in the rooms and they're really nice. The staff were all very nice, it's a friendly place. I went with two of my friends and we signed up for dinner. The food was excellent but I would have wanted for the breakfast and lunch to be included too. Most of the other places I visited offer three meals a day. They have a lot of units and they have cottages too. Part of the problem that I had was the large buy-in amount when you go in. It was just not in my budget.
